It has been 20 years since Gary Gaines used “Mojo” to lead his Panthers to a championship. No, not the Carolina Panthers. You see, this is much more important than the NFL. After an 11 year vacation in the college ranks, Coach Gaines is back in the big league at Odessa Permian High School in Odessa, TX preparing to write another chapter in the storied book of Panther football.
Coach Gaines inspired the book that inspired the movie that inspired the series that inspired NBC to produce one of the best TV dramas of all time. If you you are new to high school football or just got cable TV, I am referring to Friday Night Lights.
Billy Bob Thornton and Kyle Chandler have both done a yeoman’s job as the head coach of the fantasy Panthers, but Coach Gaines will lead The Real Mojo against “live ammunition” in the form of teams from Lubbock, Midland, and Amarillo. And none of the aforementioned teams are starstruck with Permian’s fame. I think it is safe to say that the Panthers are a bigger target than ever and every opponent will have this game circled. Good luck, Coach Gaines.
